Growing up in Canada, Kitty’s parents were both artistic, and art & design very much ran in the family: Kitty’s father was a cartographer and Kitty’s mother was a graphic designer. Kitty and her sister were both encouraged to be creative and artistic from a very young age, and both won numerous arts competitions as children. As a teenager, Kitty spent her spare time sketching, developing her photography skills, and wanting to be an architect ‘when she grew up’. Kitty was regularly told off by her English teacher for having notebooks full of floorplans, rather than ‘notes’ in English class – but she won the award for the highest English grade in her final year anyway.
Deterred by the mathematics requirements needed for a career in Architecture, Kitty went on to study Humanities and Business at University – with a special interest in product design, packaging design, ergonomics and advertising design. After an award-winning career in business, she went on to teaching at College and University level. And then, parenting and home education took hold.
During her many years as a home educator to her two children, Kitty has organized and run hundreds of youth classes, courses and workshops in art&design for home educated children, from Christopher Wren at St Paul’s Cathedral to Jewelry Making to Sustainable Design.
Kitty has been an amateur artist for over 4 decades, and an educator for more than 15.
